Afternoon with Goff and Greene

Join us for a special afternoon on Saturday, November 7th from 1:30-3:30 touring Bruce Goff's stunning Ledbetter House and Herb Greene's breathtaking Prairie House in Norman, OK. Neither house is generally open to the public, so this is truly a singular opportunity to see the interiors of these two iconic homes.
The Ledbetter House, designed and built by Bruce Goff (at the time the Dean of OU's College of Architecture) in 1948, was ahead of its time, featuring large amounts of glass on the front facade, a flagstone wall that runs the length of the back, and red circular cantilevered disks that hover above its carport and patio. The house is nestled in a neighborhood adjacent to campus, among Greek houses and obscured by surrounding landscaping so one might never realize the treasure that sits behind. https://www.ou.edu/web/news_events/articles/news_2020/american-school-legacy
Herb Greene studied at OU under Goff from 1948-1953. His first significant project after returning to teach at OU in 1958 was his own Prairie House (1960-1961). Greene's residence drew popular acclaim after Julius Shulman published photographs of the home in the 1961 issue of Life magazine. The Prairie House is considered by some to be one of the most coherent embodiments of the type of Organic architecture exemplified by Bruce Goff and his followers. The Prairie House is one of only three buildings still standing in Norman from this significant era in Oklahoma history. https://prairiehouseok.org/history
Special thanks to the current resident of the Ledbetter house, an OU Architecture Professor, and the Prairie House Preservation Society for allowing us to tour these two spectacular houses.
